From Our President & CEO

The Rutland Fire Clay Company has been in operation for over 135 years. It has endured some of the
best and some of the worst times in our Country’s history. At Rutland, we value freedom and equality
for all. Recent events have brought long-simmering issues of injustice and racism to the forefront across
our Nation and society. Fear, frustration, and violence are pervasive in our cities, towns, and

Repeating the facts regarding events or even trying to answer any of the many questions they raise here
would not be helpful. What is clear is that the life that ALL Americans want seems to be beyond reach
for far too many. We must do all that we can to create a culture where ALL are valued. That is
especially true where we have differences. Each of us has in common a compelling desire for freedom,
independence, spirit, family, friends, work – life! It is our differences that add richness to the very fabric
of our collective lives. Together we have an almost unlimited potential to be stronger, more fulfilled,
more productive, more innovative, and to achieve peace for all.

We have no ultimate solution to propose for our problems of social injustice or for eliminating the
destructive COVID-19 pandemic. However, we will not stand by and simply hope for the best. At
Rutland, we will initiate sensitivity training for discriminatory bias in all forms for every employee, and
we will redouble our aggressive precautions to stop the spread of the virus.

To our customers and suppliers, we say thank you, stay well, and please do what you can to support
others any way you can.
